Documenting for
Social Justice

In October 2017, I set out to make a documentary about homelessness in Berkeley and Oakland. The result was a 108-minute film, Homeless in Berkland — interviews with mayors, council members, service providers, activists, and people without a home. It aired on Berkeley Comcast Channel 33 during the holiday season that year.

Since then I have collaborated with concerned Berkeley residents on documentary shorts, as editor, to shed light on governance and the criminalizing of the poor — including Permanent Displacement, on the constant deracination of Berkeley’s homeless population.

In June 2018, the non-profit Consider The Homeless held a fundraiser screening these shorts alongside a re-edited, 55-minute cut titled Homeless: The Story of America’s Refugees.

These productions are free to exhibit for your own fundraisers or events, and free to use in part or in full, with attribution.
